How Many Customers Do You Need to Make $1,000 a Month in Residual Income?
If you've ever tried a home business, you've probably heard the pitch: "Just get a few people, and they'll get a few people." Then reality hits. You need hundreds of customers to cover a car payment, half of them cancel by next month, and your commission check barely covers the product you had to buy just to stay qualified.
I've been there. I used Home Business Academy's tools for about 10 years to grow other businesses, and most of those businesses failed. Not because I didn't work hard. Because the math never worked.
So I built a simple residual income calculator to show the difference. Pick the monthly goal that would change things for your family, and it shows you how many customers it would actually take. It takes about 20 seconds from your phone.
What Is Residual Income (and Why Most People Never Build It)?
Residual income is money that keeps coming in month after month from work you did once. Instead of trading hours for dollars, you get paid again and again for the same customer.
In affiliate and network marketing, residual income usually comes from recurring commissions. A customer pays for a monthly subscription, and you earn a cut every month they stay.
The problem is the size of that cut. Most programs pay somewhere around 10–20%. If your share of a subscription is $10 a month, then making $1,000 a month in residual income takes 100 active customers. And you have to keep all 100 of them happy and paying, every single month.
That's why so many people quit. They're not lazy. They're chasing a number that's nearly impossible to reach working part-time from the kitchen table.
The Residual Math That Changed My Mind
Home Business Academy (HBA) pays 80% recurring commissions. For me, that works out to $128 a month for every customer, every month they stay a customer.
Same goals, very different math:
- $500 a month = about 4 customers
- $1,000 a month = about 8 customers
- $2,500 a month = about 20 customers
- $5,000 a month = about 40 customers
Read that again. Not 100 customers for $1,000 a month. Eight. Not a stadium full of people to replace a paycheck. About 40, a group you could fit in one room.
When I ran these numbers the first time, I ran them twice because I didn't believe them. That's the moment I stopped jumping from program to program.
How the Residual Income Calculator Works
I kept it simple on purpose, because most of the people I talk to are busy parents scrolling on their phones between everything else.
- Pick your monthly goal: $500, $1,000, $2,500 or $5,000.
- Tell me where to send your numbers: just your name and email.
- See your result instantly: how many customers it takes to hit your goal at $128 a month each, plus a look at the system I use to find them.
That's it. No spreadsheets, no confusing compensation plan charts, no 45-minute webinar.
Here's the part I like most: I built this calculator myself, using the page builder inside HBA. The same tools that pay the commissions are the tools I used to make the calculator, this blog and my capture pages. That's the power of having everything in one place.
Why the Commission Percentage Isn't the Whole Story
A high commission doesn't mean much if your customers disappear. Residual income only works when people keep paying because the product is actually useful to them.
HBA is a set of marketing tools people use to run their businesses: a website and funnel builder, blogging, email marketing, video tools, goal tracking and more. I've personally used these tools for a decade. People don't buy them just to stay qualified for a bonus. They buy them because they use them.
There are no expensive products to stock up on and no hoops to jump through to qualify for your commissions. You earn on every customer, from day one.
Building Residual Income From Your Phone
I'm a husband and a dad. I don't have eight free hours a day to build a business. I build in the margins: early mornings, lunch breaks, after the kids are in bed, mostly from my phone.
My first goal is $1,000 a month in residual income. According to the math, that's about 8 customers, and I'm sharing the journey here as I go.
That's what makes this different for me. When the goal is 8 people instead of 100, it stops feeling like a fantasy. It becomes a short list you can actually work through, a few conversations a week.
What It Costs to Get Started
You can get started with the Triple Residual starter pack for $35. That gives you access to the tools and lets you start earning those recurring commissions yourself.
But don't take my word for it. Before you spend a dime, run your own numbers. See what your goal would actually take. If the math doesn't make sense for your family, you've lost 20 seconds. If it does, you might be looking at the first business opportunity where the numbers are on your side.
